Robbie Ray of Davenport, Iowa won Thursday night's 20-lap USAC Indiana Ford Focus Midget Car race at Red Hill Raceway in Sumner, Ill., becoming the first repeat winner in the new series.

Driving the Ray Racing Beast, Robbie led all but the first lap at Sumner to beat J.R. Armstrong, Tate Martz, Ryan Hamilton and Brandon Hartsell. The victory extended his point lead over Martz to 56 points going into this Saturday night's race at the Lawrenceburg (Ind.) Speedway. A 20-lap feature is on tap at the 1/4-mile dirt Lawrenceburg oval.

Armstrong's runner-up finish at Red Hill marked the Ford Focus debut of the driver who in 1981 was USAC's National Midget Car "Rookie of the Year."

Trenton Darland, who finished seventh at Red Hill, trails Martz by a single point and is one of several drivers who will be aiming for their first point-paying feature win of the season at Lawrenceburg. Darland won a special non-points race at Cedar Rapids, Iowa earlier in 2003.
