Darland (Trenton) takes Cedar Rapids Focus feature!

Trenton Darland of Lincoln, Ind., the 16-year-old son of USAC Triple Crown Driving Champion Dave Darland, recorded his initial USAC victory Thursday night at Hawkeye Downs Speedway in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He hopes to continue his success in Wednesday night's Indiana Ford Focus Midget Car event at the Anderson (Ind.) Speedway.

Darland ranks third in the 2003 series standings, which were not affected by Thursday's "special event" at the 1/3-mile paved Iowa oval. Trenton's Ford/Jim Heather Auto Body Beast was trailed in the 20-lap race by Jim Mills, Mike Palmer and Robbie Ray. Darland led all 20 laps.

Wednesday night's program at Anderson Speedway features the USAC Sprint Cars and Ford Focus Midgets on the 1/4-mile pavement. The Ford Focus feature is a 20-lapper and practice gets under way at 3:30 pm.
