Bobby East of Brownsburg, Ind. helped car owner Greg Steele maintain an "undefeated" status in the brand-new Indiana Ford Focus Midget Car Series with his May 21 victory at the Anderson (Ind.) Speedway.
East passed lady driver Heather Margo on lap two and led the rest of the way to win the 20-lap race in the Steele Racing Beast. Derek Crasi, Ryan Hamilton, Robbie Ray and Brice Kenyon rounded out the "top-five" at the checkered flag, Kenyon recovering from a 14th-lap flip. Ray and East won preliminary heat races.
The Indiana Ford Focus Midget Car Series continues with a pair of races this weekend. Twenty-lap features are scheduled Friday night at the Gas City I-69 Speedway and Sunday night at the Lawrenceburg Speedway. Friday's Gas City event is in conjunction with the USAC Sprint Cars, while Sunday's Lawrenceburg race is part of a USAC "tripleheader" also featuring the Sprint Cars and National Midget Cars, concluding a two-night USAC program at the Lawrenceburg oval.
Chad Deselle, who finished eighth at Anderson, leads Jamey Neeley by three points going into this week's competition. Neeley finished seventh at Anderson. Trenton Darland, winner of the May 15 exhibition race at Cedar Rapids, Iowa, ranks third in the current standings.
In other series news, the June 28 race at Angola Motor Speedway has been removed from the 2003 calendar of events.
