Midwest Focus Opener Sunday At Anderson

The 2004 USAC Midwest Ford Focus Midget Car Series opens this Sunday afternoon as part of the "Glen Niebel Classic" at the Anderson (Ind.) Speedway, also showcasing the USAC Valvoline Sprint Cars.

A 30-lap feature is on tap for the Focuses on the 1/4-mile paved oval, prior to the 50-lap Sprint car feature. Practice gets under way at 10:30 am, with qualifying slated at 1:15 pm and racing at 2.

Anderson Speedway hosted five Ford Focus events in 2003 and there were five different winners! They included series champion Robbie Ray, the inaugural series winner Tony Ave, Bobby East, Josh Lakatos and Brandon Hartsell. Sunday's race should be no more predictable than those.

Hartsell already has a 2004 feature victory under his belt, winning a 20-lap Carolina/Virginia Ford Focus race at Hickory, N.C. March 20. Other drivers who might have an edge Sunday at Anderson due to competing at Hickory are Brice Kenyon and Rex Norris III, who scored fifth-places in the two Hickory 20-lappers, plus Jordon Noblitt, who had a pair of top-10s in North Carolina, Ray, who was 10th in one of the March 20 races, Michael Palmer, Jon Randall and Ronnie Wuerdemann.
