California point leaders invade Indiana for Ford Focus races at Lincoln Park, Anderson & Lima
Talent from all of USAC's Ford Focus Midget Car Series will converge over the next two weeks as point leaders from the West Coast travel eastward for events against drivers in the Midwest.
Defending California Ford Focus Midget Series champion and current South Series point leader Todd Hunsaker of Chino Hills, Calif., North Series point leader Josh Lakatos of Pasadena, Calif. and teenager Garrett Hansen Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif. will compete in the next three events on the Indiana Ford Focus Midget Series calendar, lending additional talent to an already very competitive field.
Races featuring the three California veterans include this Saturday night at Lincoln Park Speedway in Putnamville, Ind., July 30 at Anderson, Ind. as part of the "Bosma 50" program also featuring the USAC National Midget Cars and August 1 at Limaland Motorsports Park in Lima, Ohio.
Eight drivers have won a California Ford Focus Midget Series race this season, while nine drivers have reached victory lane in 11 races in the initial year of the Indiana Ford Focus Midget Series. A total of 17 drivers have won 24 Ford Focus Midget Series races in 2003!
Hunsaker leads Lakatos by 38 points in the California Ford Focus Midget Series South standings, while Lakatos holds a 15-point advantage over Garratt Boyden in the North standings. Hunsaker sits fourth in the North points, 95 behind Lakatos.
Lakatos has four victories this year, while Hunsaker, who has six total wins in his career, won at Madera Speedway on Apr. 18.
Robbie Ray is the only repeat winner in the Indiana Ford Focus Series with three wins and currently leads Trenton Darland by 70 points heading into Saturday's 20-lap event at Lincoln Park Speedway in Putnamville, Ind.
