CAROLINA/VIRGINIA FOCUS REGULARS READY FOR NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP; SCOTT WINS SHENANDOAH
INDIANAPOLIS -- USAC Carolina/Virginia Ford Focus Midget Car Series participants will leave the confines of the South for the biggest two-race swing in Ford Focus history.
Following Chase Scott's 35-lap victory Saturday at Shenandoah Speedway in Shenandoah, Va., a group of six drivers vying for points regularly in the Carolina/Virginia region will continue their racing endeavors in the Midwest in this weekend's Ford Focus National Championship.
Races Saturday at Limaland Motorsports Park in Ohio and Sunday at Anderson (Ind.) Speedway comprise of the two-race championship, tracks both of which have held races for the Midwest series this season.
Scott will be one of the favorites heading into the weekend, having won the last Carolina/Virginia event. The Concord, N.C. native led all but the first lap at Shenandoah, winning his 15th career Ford Focus race -- retying the all-time mark which he and Midwest point leader Tate Martz continue to set.
Trailing Scott and his No. 4 Real Race Cars/J & L Industrial Supply Beast entry were Brit Andersen, early leader Sam Beam, Alison MacLeod and Robbie Ray.
Ray is also one of the favorites heading into this weekend's action. The Davenport, Iowa native -- who spent the 2003 season winning at Midwest facilities and eventually claiming the series championship there -- has wins at each track and overall has 12 points-paying Ford Focus wins.
Scott and Lindsey Trausch also ventured outside the Midwest earlier in the year to make starts at the championship tracks. Scott competed at Lima, while Trausch set the second quick time at Anderson.
Scott's lead in the Carolina/Virginia region jumped to 59 with two races remaining on the series calendar, including the Sept. 24 race at Stanley, N.C. <pre> CAROLINA/VIRGINIA FORD FOCUS MIDGET CAR SERIES STANDINGS 1.
