CAROLINA/VIRGINIA FOCUS SERIES BEGINS SEASON SATURDAY

INDIANAPOLIS -- USAC's Carolina/Virginia Ford Focus Midget Car Series kicks off its 2006 schedule Saturday at Southern National Speedway in Kenly, N.C., the first of 12 races.

Back to defend his title is Chase Scott of Concord, N.C., who is the only champion the series has seen in its first two years. Scott is the leader in all-time victories in series history and among the Top 3 overall in Ford Focus competition.

Among those looking to move Scott off the pedestal include defending Northeast champion Michael Sboro, last year's third-place runner Aron Oakley, and All-American Driver Challenge winner Bradley Riethmeyer, who earned a ride with series promoter Tracy Trotter for the full season following his performance in the first annual contest.

Riethmeyer will drive the same car 2003 Midwest champ Robbie Ray piloted to third- and second-place points finishes the last two seasons.
