"Mopar Million Sprint At Eldora" offers $1,000,000!
The largest purse in American Sprint Car racing history is up for grabs this weekend at the Eldora Speedway and drivers from across America will converge on the 1/2-mile dirt oval to make up the 150-entry field for what promises to be an American short-track classic.
Drivers will cut a $1,000,000 pie, with the winner taking home a check for $200,000, second earning $125,000 and third landing $100,000! No less than $10,000 is available for drivers who transfer to Saturday night's 40-lap A-Main!
Practice is slated Friday night, followed by ten 12-lap feat races to determine the lineups for Saturday night's main events. On Saturday drivers will compete in 15-lap F.E and D mains, plus 20-lap C and B Mains before the 40-lap finale.
The race will offer J.J. Yeley yet another opportunity to extend his record total of USAC single-season feature victories, which stand at 22. Yeley is attempting to secure USAC's "Triple Crown" of championships, leading the points in the USAC Weld Racing Silver Crown, USAC National Sprint Car and USAC National Midget Car Series! Tony Stewart, his Sprint car owner, is the only driver ever to win all three titles in a single season - 1995.
The race will establish new records for USAC Sprint car prize money and car counts, the 150 entries more than doubling any previous single-race count.
Twenty-two Ohio communities are represented in the 150-car field so far. Wooster leads the way with drivers Jac Haudenschild, Rob Chaney and Dean Jacobs. Tony and Johnny Beaber from Gibsonburg are entered, as are Randy Fink and Aaron Fry of Chillicothe and Dwayne Spille and Nick Naber of Cincinnati. Other entered Ohio drivers include Brian Stinson of Lewisburg, Kent Wolters of Tipp City, Brian Smith of Fremont, Butch Schroeder of Leipsic, Brad Vogler of Bradord, Dave Freed of Findlay, Ryan Howard of New Carlisle, Kevin Besecker of Greenville, Mike Brecht of Deshler, Steve Simon of Covington, Duffy Smith of Massillon, Rusty McClure of Ashland, Greg Wilson of Benton Ridge, Dale Blaney of Fowler, Steve Wilmot of Middletown, Mike Miller of Wapakoneta, Jimmy Stinson of Vandalia and Bruce Robenault of Tiffin.
Friday's activities start with practice at 5 pm, while a 4 pm autograph session precedes Saturday night's Main Events, which begin at 6:30.
