J.J. Yeley of Phoenix, Ariz. enters this weekend USAC National Sprint Car competition at Gas City and Lawrenceburg, Ind. with a 70-point series lead over Tracy Hines and 79 ahead of third-ranking Bud Kaeding as a result of his victory in Sunday night's 30-lapper at Rossburg, Ohio.
Yeley was relegated to his "backup" car after breaking a drive line in a push-off at the Eldora Speedway, but came back to lead all 30 laps in his Tony Stewart Racing Twister/Mopar to extend his lead in the series points. He was trailed to the checkered flag by Hines, Kaeding, Boston Reid and Road to Indy fast qualifier Jay Drake.
Yeley finished second in Wednesday night's "USAC 50" at the Anderson (Ind.) Speedway, won by Brian Tyler of Parma, Mich. Tyler led wire-to-wire in the 50-lap race in his DuPont Automotive/LVS Solutions Brand X/Foxco to beat Yeley, Kaeding, Drake and Cory Kruseman. Hines was the Road to Indy fast qualifier at Anderson.
Three consecutive nights of USAC National Sprint Car racing are planned in Indiana this week, beginning with Friday night's events at Gas City I-69 Speedway. The Indiana Ford Focus Midget Cars share the program at Gas City, where the Sprint feature is 30 laps. The Sprint Cars then travel to Lawrenceburg Speedway for Saturday and Sunday night races, both 30-lappers. Sunday night's program also features the Indiana Ford Focus Midget Cars and the National Midget Cars, creating a "tripleheader."
Practice at Gas City starts at 5:45 pm, with qualifying beginning at 6:30 and racing at 7:30. Practice at Lawrenceburg each night is set to start at 6 pm.
