Drivers posting fast qualifying times for USAC events won three of five feature events over the past weekend. They'll be looking to do even better this weekend as the USAC National Midget Car Series invades central Indiana for races at Indianapolis Raceway Park Friday and Anderson Speedway Saturday.

Tracy Hines cut J.J. Yeley's lead in the 2002 Earl's Pro-Lite 350 Fast Qualifier Championship standings to 34 points by setting second fast qualifying time for Saturday's "4-Crown Nationals" Sprint race at Rossburg, Ohio. Yeley was unable to add to his Earl's total in the three Rossburg events.

Jay Drake made the biggest jump in the Earl's standings, racking up 22 total points at Rossburg to solidify his hold on fourth in the points. He was the fastest qualifier and winner in the Midget Car Series, while Cory Kruseman was the fastest qualifier in the Stoops Freightliner Sprint Cars. Drake was the fastest Weld Racing Silver Crown qualifier but Brian Tyler won that race, while Bud Kaeding won the Sprint race.

Chad Nichols (Sprint Cars) and Tony Hunt (Midgets) were the respective fast qualifiers and race winners in Saturday night action at the Madera (Calif.) Speedway.

A $20,000 bonus will be paid to the driver accumulating the most points during 2002 in five USAC racing series, computed through an international point system utilized specifically for this title.

The system somewhat mirrors the system used for years for determining the World Driving Champion, with nine points for fast qualifying time, six for second, four for third, three for fourth, two for fifth and one for sixth. Series included in the Earl's Pro-Lite 350 Hose Fast Qualifier Championship are the Weld Racing Silver Crown Series, the Stoops Freightliner Sprint Car Series, Western Sprint Car Series, National and Western Midget Car Series.

The $20,000 cash bonus will be presented at the USAC Champions Night in Indianapolis at season's end.
