$5,000 Earl's bonuses for Hines & Yeley!
Tracy Hines of New Castle, Ind. and J.J. Yeley of Phoenix, Ariz. closed the books on two Earl's Plumbing Fast Qualifier Championships this past week, while three others will conclude with racing events in November.
Hines emerged as the champion of the USAC National Sprint Car qualifying title when rains forced time trials for the series finale at Charlotte, N.C. to be abandoned. Yeley earned the Weld Racing Silver Crown qualifying title despite failing to post a top-six qualifying effort for Saturday's series finale at Syracuse, N.Y. Each will receive a $5,000 cash bonus from Earl's at the USAC National Awards Dinner in Indianapolis in December.
Hines finished three points ahead of Jay Drake and four ahead of Yeley in the final Sprint qualifying tally, while Yeley was 28 points better than Dave Steele and 42 ahead of Dave Darland in the final Silver Crown qualifying tally. Darland was the fastest qualifier for the Syracuse Silver Crown finale.
Earl's points will be distributed at Saturday night's USAC National Midget race at Big Daddy's South Boston Speedway in South Boston, Va. Hines leads Yeley by 16 points in that series qualifying standings going into Saturday's event.
This year, each USAC National and Western Series qualifying champion will receive a $5,000 bonus from Earl's in recognition of their accomplishment. Points are earned at each USAC event based on an international system awarding the top-six qualifiers with points in the following scale: 1st-9. 2nd-6, 3rd-4, 4th-3, 5th-2, 6th-1.
The current Earl's Plumbing Fast Qualifier standings for each series are as follows:
