Hines leads Earl's Sprint "Shootout" at Charlotte.

Tracy Hines of New Castle, Ind. will lead a trio of drivers competing for a $5,000 season-ending bonus from the Earl's Plumbing Fast Qualifier Championship when the USAC National Sprint Cars conclude their campaign Wednesday night at The Dirt Track at Lowe's Motor Speedway in Charlotte, N.C.

Hines snatched the Earl's point lead from J.J. Yeley and Jay Drake Saturday night at Terre Haute. Ind., posting the fastest qualifying time for the "Fall Harvest Classic" and now leads Yeley by three and Drake by four points going into the Charlotte finale. Yeley, who won at Terre Haute, was the fourth fastest qualifier behind Drake, who was third fastest. Yeley and Drake entered the Terre Haute race tied for the Earl's lead.

Points available at Charlotte for the top six qualifying positions are 9-6-4-3-2-1.

Michael Lewis threw his hat in the ring for the Earl's Western Sprint bonus (also $5,000) with his fastest qualifying time Saturday night at Irwindale, Calif. He trails Tony Hunt (third fastest at Irwindale) by seven points. Lewis also posted the fastest time for the Irwindale Midget race, while Josh Wise still trails Yeley by four points in that $5,000 bonus battle.

Earl's points this week will also be distributed at Wednesday night's "Charlotte Dirt Doubleheader Nationals" Sprint race in North Carolina and in Friday's qualifying for Saturday's USAC Weld Racing Silver Crown finale at the New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse, N.Y., as well as at the Western Midget Car race at Hanford, Calif. Saturday night.

This year, each USAC National and Western Series qualifying champion will receive a $5,000 bonus from Earl's in recognition of their accomplishment. Points are earned at each USAC event based on an international system awarding the top-six qualifiers with points in the following scale: 1st-9. 2nd-6, 3rd-4, 4th-3, 5th-2, 6th-1.
