Yeley atop 4 Earl's standings again!
J.J. Yeley of Phoenix, Ariz. is again leading four of the five Earl's Plumbing Fast Qualifier Championship standings after nearly scoring maximum points in weekend events.
Yeley was the fastest qualifier for Saturday night's USAC National Sprint Car race at Indianapolis Raceway Park and was second fastest qualifier behind Boston Reid in Friday night's USAC National Sprint action at Toledo, Ohio. Those performances vaulted him back in front of Jay Drake in the National Sprint Car segment of the Earl's championship for 2003.
Yeley has now earned a total of 170 Earl's points this season, compared to 131 for Tracy Hines and 96 for Drake. Hines ranks second in the National Midget Earl's points, plus third in National Sprints and Weld Racing Silver Crown and fifth in Western Sprints. Drake is second in the Sprints, fourth in Silver Crown and Western Sprints and fifth in National Midgets.
Earl's points are again up for grabs in this week's four Valvoline "Indiana Sprint Week" USAC National Sprint Car races, plus USAC Western Sprint Car events at Boise, Idaho Friday and Saturday.
This year, each USAC National and Western Series qualifying champion will receive a $5,000 bonus from Earl's in recognition of their accomplishment. Points are earned at each USAC event based on an international system awarding the top-six qualifiers with points in the following scale: 1st-9. 2nd-6, 3rd-4, 4th-3, 5th-2, 6th-1.
