Yeley back on top of Earl's lists.
J.J. Yeley is back in the lead in four of the five 2003 Earl's Plumbing Fast Qualifier point lists as USAC gears up for what could be its busiest week of racing in history.
Six of this week's nine USAC National events will offer valuable Earl's Plumbing Fast Qualifier points, including all four of the Sprint Car events involved in the 2nd "Buckeye Nationals" in Ohio. National Midget-Car qualifying will occur only at Eldora Speedway Saturday night, while the other "Buckeye Nationals" Midget events will feature a draw for starting positions. The USAC Western Sprint Car race at Madera, Calif. Thursday night also offers Earl's points.
Yeley, of Phoenix, Ariz., was the third-fastest qualifier for Saturday night's "Sumar Classic" Weld Racing Silver Crown race at Terre Haute, Ind. and leads all but the Western Sprint Car Earl's standings, where Rick Hendrix is the leader. Hendrix was third-fastest qualifier at Tucson, Ariz. Saturday night.
Earl's fast qualifiers in last week's USAC action included Michael Lewis at Tucson, Jay Drake in the Silver Crown event at Terre Haute, Ind. and Tracy Hines in Sunday night's Kokomo, Ind. Midget Car program.
This year, each USAC National and Western Series qualifying champion will receive a $5,000 bonus from Earl's in recognition of their accomplishment. Points are earned at each USAC event based on an international system awarding the top-six qualifiers with points in the following scale: 1st-9. 2nd-6, 3rd-4, 4th-3, 5th-2, 6th-1.
