Yeley extends Earl's lead with 2 more FQs
J.J. Yeley chalked up two more fast qualifying efforts in USAC events over the weekend to extend his leads in the 2003 Earl's Plumbing Fast Qualifier standings. He continues to lead four of the five series standings.
Yeley was the fastest qualifier for both of Sunday night's National races at the Lawrenceburg (Ind.) Speedway, pacing the Sprint Cars and Midgets. Jon Stanbrough was Friday night's fastest Sprint Car qualifier at Gas City, Ind., while Tracy Hines set a new track record in pacing Saturday night's Lawrenceburg Sprint Car time trials.
More Earl's points will be up for grabs in this Wednesday night's "DuPont Automotive Finishes Midget Classic" at Granite City, Ill. and in Saturday night's Western Midget Car race at the Bakersfield (Calif.) Speedway.
This year, each USAC National and Western Series qualifying champion will receive a $5,000 bonus from Earl's in recognition of their accomplishment. Points are earned at each USAC event based on an international system awarding the top-six qualifiers with points in the following scale: 1st-9. 2nd-6, 3rd-4, 4th-3, 5th-2, 6th-1.
