Wise tops Earl's Western Midget Standings
Josh Wise of Riverside, Calif. posted the fastest qualifying time for Saturday night's USAC Western Midget Car race at Kings Speedway in Hanford, Calif. and closed in on J.J. Yeley in the battle for the $5,000 cash bonus from Earl's Plumbing at season's end for the driver earning the most series qualifying points.
Wise trails Yeley by 10 points foing into a June 7 race at Bakersfield (Calif.) Speedway.
Also earning Earl's points at Hanford Saturday night were Steve Paden, Rick Hendrix, Jerome Rodela, Wally Pankratz and Jimmy Christian.
Rains postponed Saturday night's USAC Weld Racing Silver Crown race at Indianapolis Raceway Park to May 22.
This year, each USAC National and Western Series qualifying champion will receive a $5,000 bonus from Earl's in recognition of their accomplishment. Points are earned at each USAC event based on an international system awarding the top-six qualifiers with points in the following scale: 1st-9. 2nd-6, 3rd-4, 4th-3, 5th-2, 6th-1.
