Levi Jones, Jerome Rodela Lock Up Earl's FQ Titles!

Levi Jones of Olney, Ill. nailed down the 2004 Earl's Plumbing Fast Qualifier Championship in the Valvoline USAC National Sprint Car Series by posting the fastest qualifying time Friday night at Perris, Calif. Jones was the fastest of 54 qualifiers for the 9th "Budweiser Oval Nationals" prelim and emerged with a 15-point margin over runner-up Josh Wise in the final Earl's points.

Cory Kruseman was Thursday's fast qualifier at Perris and finished third in the Earl's Sprint points.

Earl's Championships yet to be decided include those in the National Midget and Western Sprint series. Bobby East has a five-point lead over Wise in the National Midget qualifying points, while Tony Hunt holds a 10-point lead over Michael Lewis in the Western Sprints. The next race in both series is the "Old Pueblo Classic" at Tucson, Ariz. Nov. 20. Jerome Rodela of El Monte, Calif., by virtue of Saturday night's Western Midget cancellation at Ventura, Calif., has locked up that series' qualifying title with a 22-point lead over Garrett Hansen going into the Tucson race.

Points are traditionally awarded at each USAC event based on an international system awarding the top-six qualifiers with points in the following scale: 1st-9, 2nd-6, 3rd-4, 4th-3, 5th-2, 6th-1.

Each USAC National, Western and Ford Focus Midget Car Earl's Plumbing FQ Champion will be honored at USAC's Champions Night ceremony in Indianapolis in December. The National and Western FQ champs will receive $5,000 each, while the Ford Focus FQ champs will each receive $1,500.
