Jones Now 6 Ahead of Wise in Sprint FQ Points
Levi Jones extended his Earl's Plumbing Fast Qualifying point lead over Josh Wise to six points last week, qualifying fifth at Charlotte, N.C. Wednesday night. He'll try to protect that lead when the series visits Perris (Calif.) Auto Speedway October 28-30 for the Budweiser Oval Nationals.
Earl's fast qualifiers last week included Jay Drake (National Sprints at Charlotte, NC) and Davey Ray (National Sprints at Woodstock, Ga.), plus Tony Hunt (Western Sprints at Las Vegas, Nev.), Michael Lewis (Western Midgets at Las Vegas) and Chris Rahe (Ford Focuses at Las Vegas).
Earl's points will also be distributed this week in races at Bakersfield, Calif. (California Ford Focuses) and South Boston, Va.(Carolina/Virginia Ford Focuses).
Points are traditionally awarded at each USAC event based on an international system awarding the top-six qualifiers with points in the following scale: 1st-9, 2nd-6, 3rd-4, 4th-3, 5th-2, 6th-1.
Each USAC National, Western and Ford Focus Midget Car Earl's Plumbing FQ Champion will be honored at USAC's Champions Night ceremony in Indianapolis in December. The National and Western FQ champs will receive $5,000 each, while the Ford Focus FQ champs will each receive $1,500.
