Steele, Wise Take Earl's Sprint, Midget Lead
Dave Steele and Josh Wise are the new leaders respectively in the Earl's Plumbing Fast Qualifiers Championship standings in USAC's Valvoline National Sprint Car and National Midget Car Series following weekend performances.
Steele was the fastest qualifier for the Sprint race at Toledo, Ohio Friday and second fastest behind Bobby East at Indianapolis Raceway Park Saturday. Wise set a new track National Midget record at the Blossom Chevrolet Indianapolis Speedrome Wednesday.
Garrett Hansen posted the fastest qualifying time for Saturday night's USAC Western Midget race at the Bakersfield (Calif.) Speedway.
Earl's points this week will be distributed to participants in USAC's Valvoline National and Western Sprint Series, USAC's Western Midget Series and USAC's Ford Focus Series.
Points are traditionally awarded at each USAC event based on an international system awarding the top-six qualifiers with points in the following scale: 1st-9. 2nd-6, 3rd-4, 4th-3, 5th-2, 6th-1.
Each USAC National, Western and Ford Focus Midget Car Earl's Plumbing FQ Champion will be honored at USAC's Champions Night ceremony in Indianapolis in December. The National and Western FQ champs will receive $5,000 each, while the Ford Focus FQ champs will each receive $1,500.
