York & Stanbrough Set For Perris Auto Speedway Season Opener!
(JANUARY 26, 2005, PERRIS, CA) Two more top out of town drivers will be in the field when Temecula Valley Pipe & Supply presents the 2005 Perris Auto Speedway 10th Anniversary Season Opener, featuring the Valvoline USAC/CRA Sprint Cars, on Saturday afternoon, February 5th. The two are Northern California's Jason York and Jamestown, Indiana's Jon Stanbrough.
York, of Chico, California, is the son of former CRA driver Pat York. The personable 33 year-old scored a thrilling win at The PAS last August when he beat two-time Oval Nationals champion Cory Kruseman to the Eddie Ramirez checkered flag in a photo finish. It was York's first win at The PAS and in the USAC/CRA Series.
A former Late Model Rookie of the Year in Northern California, York finished third in the points at Chico's Silver Dollar Speedway in 1998 and 1999 and won the championship in 2000. The father of an infant son, York plans to compete in the Valvoline USAC/CRA Series and the winged Golden State Challenge Series in 2005. His crew chief is his wife Julie.
Stanbrough tied his career best ever finish in Valvoline USAC National Series points in 2004 when he placed ninth. The 37 year-old father of one picked up two USAC National wins in 2004. One victory was his second consecutive triumph in the Robbie Stanley Classic at Lawrenceburg, Indiana and the other came at Woodstock, Georgia.
At last October's Oval Nationals at The PAS, Stanbrough hovered near the front of the pack all three nights. He was 8th fast qualifier and finished 7th in the A main on Thursday. On Friday he was 7th fast qualifier, won the B main and finished 8th in the A main. In the 50-lap finale on Saturday, Stanbrough finished 11th. His finest season in a sprint car came in 2003 when he won 19 mains (two USAC) at eight different tracks.
At the PAS season opener, Stanbrough will be wheeling Anne Wilkerson's blue #11, which is crew chiefed by her Sprint Car Hall of Fame husband and two-time CRA Champion Billy Wilkerson.
York and Stanbrough comprise a small portion of the star studded field that will also include defending USAC/CRA Champion Rip Williams, Cory Kruseman, Rickie Gaunt, Tony Jones, Mike Kirby, Dave Darland, Damion Gardner, Troy Rutherford, Mike Spencer, Charles Davis Jr., Bobby Cody, Cary Faas and the rest of the west coast Valvoline USAC/CRA stars.
The 10th Anniversary Season party starts at noon when the spectator gates open. Ramona Tire is giving away beautiful, large refrigerator schedule magnets for all fans in attendance. Qualifying will start at 1:00 PM. After the races end, the band Euphoria will play in the infield for fans, race teams and officials.
Perris Auto Speedway is conveniently located on the Lake Perris Fairgrounds, home of the Southern California Fair, approximately one hour east of Los Angeles. Take the 215 Freeway, exit at the Ramona Expressway and go east two and a half miles to the fairgrounds.
