CARL EDWARDS/ R.E. TECHNOLOGIES RACING RECORDS FOURTH TOP FIVE OF THE SEASON AT CHICAGOLAND
JOLIET, Ill. -- With USAC Silver Crown rookie Cameron Dodson at the wheel, the Carl Edwards/ R.E. Technologies Racing team recorded their fourth top five finish of the season Friday afternoon finishing fourth in the "USG Fiberock 100" at Chicagoland Speedway in Joliet, Illinois.
The Carl Edwards/ R.E. Technologies Racing team unloaded Friday morning at Chicagoland Speedway fast. The No. 199 Ford powered Red Line Oil/ Hoosier Tires C&R Chassis Silver Crown car recorded the fastest time in the morning session. The speed bested Aaron Pierce's Silver Crown record of 175.012 mph set two years ago at Homestead during qualifying. Behind a Larry Wallace Ford engine, Dodson turned a speed of over 176 mph. Pierce will keep the record because Dodson's faster speed was not recorded during qualifying. When it came time to qualify, Dodson turned fast speed of 174.814 mph. Nextel Cup Series driver, J.J. Yeley was the only driver to best the No. 199's time. Yeley edged out Dodson with a time of 174.842 mph. The NASCAR Nextel Cup Series and Busch Series racing on Goodyear rubber took to the track following USAC qualifying for their practice and qualifying sessions. Seven hours later the green flag would drop on the "USG Fiberock 100"
Cameron Dodson and the No. 199 would slide back through the field in the beginning in the race due to handling problems with the No. 199. Team co-owner Carl Edwards spotted for Dodson and coached him through the issues. When the caution flag flew, team manager Chris Santucci made the call to bring the No. 199 down onto pit lane for some adjustments. The changes to the car worked and with coaching of Edwards, Dodson began to move back up through the field to finish fourth and record the team's fourth top five finish of the season. J.J. Yeley led all 67 laps to claim the win.
Cameron Dodson and the Carl Edwards/ R.E. Technologies Racing team benefited from their fourth place finish Friday afternoon in the points department. The rookie from Indiana leaped from eighth in the driver's points to fourth. Dodson is now only 12 points out of third place in the drivers standings. No. 199 Carl Edwards/ R.E. Technologies Ford, Hoosier Tires, Red Line Oil entry remains in first place in the USAC Silver Crown Series owner's points heading into O'Reilly Raceway Park. The "J.D. Byrider 100" at O'Reilly Raceway Park is scheduled for Thursday night July 26th. The race again coincides with the NASCAR weekend in Indianapolis.
