NAZARETH, PA (June 10, 2004) -- USAC Series driver Boston Reid took on the "World's Fastest Mile" for the first time ever yesterday when he tested his USAC Weld Racing Silver Crown car around the historic one-mile oval. "I think I've adapted well to the track -- hopefully, but it has been pretty hot," said Reid when asked about his experience around the Speedway.
Temperatures at the Speedway reached 90 degrees as Reid lapped the track in preparation for Bully Hill Vineyards 100 this summer on August 29th. "I'd hate to test (at Nazareth Speedway) when it's cold. It has been pretty hot and I've been putting down rubber for some grip -- so I feel good."
The USAC Weld Racing Silver Crown driver was surprised with his run around the one mile oval but hopeful that he will know what to expect in August. He understands now why other drivers have told him that the tri-oval handles much like a road course. "It is an interesting track -- no ends are the same, but I think I've set-up good and will be ready for the race this summer," added Reid.
Three different USAC races are featured during the Firestone Indy 225 event weekend August 27-29 including the USAC Valvoline National Sprint Car Series and USAC National Midget Car Series on Saturday, August 28th. The USAC Weld Racing Silver Crown Series will be racing in the Bully Hill Vineyards 100 after the featured IRL IndyCar Series, Firestone Indy 225 on Sunday, August 29th.
This year Reid has been driving full-time in the USAC Weld Racing Silver Crown Series and part time for the USAC National Sprint Car Series. When asked if he'd compete in the USAC Sprint Car Series race at Nazareth Speedway on Saturday August 28th, he said that he wasn't sure. "This is a historic place and I am looking forward to racing here - maybe in two different cars." Reid is currently 7th in points in the USAC Weld Racing Silver Crown standings. He finished 5th in the National Sprint Cars Series in 2003.
