East Scores Win in Sokola Classic at Perris
Brownsburg, Ind. (March 1, 2010) -- After a one-day delay due to inclement weather, Bobby East scored his first USAC victory of the 2010 season by leading all 30 laps of the National/Western States Midget Series "Sokola Classic" at Perris Auto Speedway on Sunday. East started the Klatt Enterprises No. 4 Ford Racing Technology/Beast Chassis/ClubSport Ford-powered Beast on the front row and dominated the race, beating Brad Sweet to the line to take the checkered.
"We started off strong at Tucson and we wanted to keep that momentum on our side," East said. "Coming out here and getting a win early in the season on the dirt is awesome. We had a lot of really strong cars behind us all night long but our car was really hooked up tonight. Once we jumped into the lead on the start I knew it would be pretty tough for anyone to get around us as well as the car was running. Evan (Avart, crew chief) and the guys did a great job getting the car this good."
East has a solid dirt track resume in his USAC career, but knows if he's going to battle for the championship he needs better finishes on the clay in 2010 to stay in contention.
"We've had a lot of great races and won a lot on the dirt but we knew we were going to need to step up our dirt track program to make a run for the championship this season," he said. "We had a lot of great runs on the dirt last year but we also had some bad luck and we gave away some points in the championship. We did what we needed to out here to start the season. It's great to come out here and have three really solid races to get the season started."
East also scored a top-ten finish in the midget portion of the "Las Vegas Super Sprint Special" on Thursday night at The Dirt Track at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. East now sits second in the USAC National Midget Series championship standings after three races, 38 points behind leader Brad Sweet.
East and the Klatt Enterprises No. 4 Ford Racing Technology/Beast Chassis/ClubSport Beast return to USAC National Midget Series on March 24 and 25 with a two-day show at Hickory Motor Speedway in Hickory, N.C.
