East gives Steve Lewis #100; Midgets head for Joliet Friday.

Bobby East of Brownsburg, Ind. gave car owner Steve Lewis of Laguna Beach, Calif. an all-time USAC career record 100th USAC National Midget Car feature victory Saturday night at Berlin Raceway in Marne, Mich. The win solidified Bobby's fifth-place ranking in the series standings behind leader Dave Darland.

East caught Tracy Hines on lap 14 and led the final 16 laps in his Ford/ASE/Performance Racing Industry Pink Ford/Beast to beat A.J. Fike, Darland, J.J. Yeley and Teddy Beach as Hines slipped to sixth at the checkered flag. East was also the fastest qualifier on the 7/16-mile paved oval. Hines led the first 14 laps of the feature before yielding to East.

The National Midget Car Series heads for Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, Ill. for this Friday night's "doubleheader," also featuring the Stoops Freightliner Sprint Cars. Hines rates the favorite's role there based on his 2001 victory at the 1/2-mile dirt track. Practice starts at 5 pm, while qualifying begins at 6 and racing gets under way at 7. Thirty-lap features are on tap for both series.

Car owner Steve Lewis now holds the record for USAC National Midget Car feature wins at 100, having tied the late Doug Caruthers' record of 98 with Dave Darland's victory at Salem, Ind. August 10 broken it with J.J. Yeley's win at Granite City, Ill. August 24.
