Aaron Pierce of Muncie, Ind. captured Sunday's 4th "Glen Niebel Classic" USAC National Sprint Car Series opener at the Anderson (Ind.) Speedway. Saturday night's originally-scheduled "Don Branson/Jud Larson Classic" at the Eldora Speedway was cancelled due to heavy rains on Friday night.

Pierce led all but one lap of Sunday's 50-lap race to record his initial USAC feature triumph. The win was also the first in USAC for car owner Mike Blake, who fielded the Sam Pierce Chevrolet/Valvoline Dynamite/Frampton Pierce drove to victory.

Pierce started on the pole and led the first 28 laps before a four-car tangle sent fast qualifier Jay Drake flipping end-over-end in turn three. Drake was uninjured.

On the restart, Pierce led through lap 42 when J.J. Yeley made a pass attempt exiting turn four. Yeley led briefly at the line as the two cars touched, but Pierce regained the lead in turn one and led the rest of the way.

Yeley finished second, ahead of Levi Jones, Bobby East and Tracy Hines.

The USAC National Sprint Car Series resumes on May 3 and 4 with the "Border Wars" events at the Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio and the Winchester (Ind.) Speedway.
