Weld Racing Silver Crown Series opens with "Copper World Indy 200" at Phoenix March 17

Weld Motorsports of Kansas City, Mo., long recognized as the nation's leading manufacturer of forged aluminum racing wheels and street wheels for passenger vehicles, has announced it will be the entitlement sponsor for the 2002 USAC Silver Crown Championship Series.

The "Weld Racing Silver Crown Championship" opens with the March 14-17 "Copper World Indy 200" events at Phoenix, Ariz. and is currently slated to end with the new "Silver Crown 100" at the New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse, N.Y. October 12. In between, no less than seven additional races are slated, with additional races under negotiation.

"This is a fantastic opportunity for Weld Motorsports," said President Greg Weld. "As a former USAC participant and Sprint Car Champion I respect USAC's professionalism and expertise and am extremely excited about this joint venture. I recognize the Silver Crown Series as the premier front-engined open-wheel racing series in existence and its participants are among my most long-term and loyal friends. It's a perfect opportunity, which I expect to endure and prosper, and allows us to showcase our complete line of performance street and racing wheels."

Although complete details of the sponsorship are being finalized, they will obviously include race-to-race contingency prizes and year-end point fund contributions.

"The Silver Crown Series has always been one of my favorites," added Judy Kouba Dominic, Director of Motorsports for Weld Racing. "I'm looking forward to working with USAC and its competitors in 2002."

The Silver Crown Series will enjoy its 32nd season in 2002. "Weld Racing's involvement with our Silver Crown Series is extremely important and valued," added USAC President/CEO Rollie Helmling. "Obviously, as a former Silver Crown car owner, I recognize the importance of high-profile series sponsorships and their meaning to the participants. We are fortunate to have Greg and a company of their stature as our partners and look forward to a long and lasting relationship affording mutual benefits."
