(July 10, 1999) - Elkhart Lake, WI - In the fifth race of the BFGoodrich Tires Trans-Am Series at Road America, Rookie Tomy Drissi finished ninth in the #15 Drissi Advertising Mustang Cobra. New to the Trans-Am Series this year, Drissi is currently tenth in overall championship points and second in points for the Rookie of the Year honors. Drissi qualified in 16th position due to a mechanical failure that left him stranded on the course during most of the qualifying session. Drissi overcame the eighth row starting position and moved up to ninth place in the twenty five laps before the checkered flag dropped. While Drissi is a former Champion in Vintage Racing, he is becoming more adept and familiar with the larger, more powerful Ford Mustang Cobra he is competing in for the series. "This is my fifth professional race and I know I am being hard on myself. My crew keeps telling me to be patient, but I am such a competitor I want to get up there at the front." Commented Drissi. "I am learning a lot just by watching the other drivers and I am working really hard at being a serious contender in the BFGoodrich Tires Trans-Am Series." Drissi has three top ten finishes to date, Long Beach (8th), Lime Rock (10th) and Road America (9th). The BFGoodrich Tires Trans-Am Series resumes competition with Round Six at Road Atlanta on July 25.
