FROM STREETS TO SLICKS - Boris Said proved why he was the best in Trans-Am competition this year, clinching the BFGoodrich® Tires Cup and drivers championship today at Road Atlanta after his seventh first place finish of the year. The BFGoodrich® Tires Cup and Trans-Am Championship is the first major motorsports career championship for the veteran road racer, although Said's proven his worth in every series from GT Cup to NASCAR and numerous other sportscar series.

"I'm proud to be called the BFGoodrich® Tires Champion," said Boris Said. "BFGoodrich Tires® has always supported me over the years. I'm not surprised that my first major motorsports championship came while riding on BFGoodrich® Tires."

Said has developed many strong relationships with the BFGoodrich® Tires brand and its employees over the years. One such relationship continues today, having begun in 1987. Herb Johnson, director of motorsports for BFGoodrich® Tires helped Boris Said get his start in amateur racing in 1987.

"I showed up at the race in my street car and was ready to race, but I didn't realize that I needed race tires in order to participate," Said recalled. "That's where I met Herb Johnson, who signed me up with the BFGoodrich® Tires Team T/A program."

The Team T/A program, started in the early 1980s continued through the 1990s and provided amateur race car drivers affiliating with BFGoodrich Tires - as their brand of choice -- discounts on a variety of racing tires to meet their on, and off-track needs. Other former BFGoodrich® Tires Team T/A drivers include Jimmy Johnson and Robbie Gordon, both now racing in NASCAR Winston Cup.

Boris Said continued amateur motorsports, and with the support of BFGoodrich® Tires Team T/A won the run-offs in 1989, 1990 and 1991. He continued in the Team T/A program until 1992 when he finally began racing in professional motorsports. Since then, Said has participated in numerous racing series including Craftsman Truck, NASCAR Winston Cup, World Challenge, ALMS and Trans-Am.

"It's extremely rewarding for me, personally, to see someone like Boris Said develop into a true champion racer. Boris is the kind of driver who doesn't care what kind of car it is, just as long as it goes fast and he can be behind the wheel," said Johnson. "Boris has always been a strong supporter of BFGoodrich® Tires and having him as the 2002 BFGoodrich® Tires Champion has special meaning to the brand."
