PORTLAND, Ore (May 20, 2004) — Albertsons has been named title sponsor of Round 2 of the 2004 Motorock Trans-Am Series championship, scheduled for June 19, during the Champ Car Grand Prix weekend at Portland International Raceway. The race will be known as the Albertsons Trans-Am 100. The event marks a return of the Trans-Am Series to Portland after a two-year hiatus.

“Albertsons considers itself a family-focused food and drug retailer, and we’re privileged to be this year’s sponsor of such a wonderfully family-focused sporting event,” stated Mike Withers, Albertsons NW Region Vice-President. “The Motorock Trans-Am race represents the best of what Portland has to offer to race fans of all ages, and we at Albertsons look forward to helping the event be a winning part of the Champ Car Grand Prix weekend.”

“We’re delighted to have Albertsons as part of the extended Champ Car family through the sponsorship of the Trans-Am race. Albertsons has been a long time member of the Portland community and we’re honored to have a title sponsor with the stature and local presence that Albertsons enjoys,” stated Champ Car World Series President Dick Eidswick.

“We are pleased to announce Albertsons as our title sponsor for our return to Portland,” said Motorock Trans-Am Series Executive Director John Clagett. “This is a tremendous opportunity for the Trans-Am Series to build a presence with a major food retailer, and makes for an important and exciting partnership that will bring significant value to both the Trans-Am Series and Albertsons.”

The race weekend, which runs from June 18-20, also features the Bridgestone Presents The Champ Car World Series Powered by Ford and the Toyota Atlantic Championship Presented by Yokohama.
