Wilden Quickest in First Trans-Am Practice at Mosport
BOWMANVILLE, Ontario, Canada (May 22, 2010) -- It didn't take long for Kenny Wilden to reacquaint himself with the SCCA Pro Racing Trans-Am Series, as the Canadian racer posted the quickest lap in the first practice session of the weekend for the Victoria Day Speedfest at Mosport International Raceway on Saturday morning.
Participating in his first Trans-Am event since 2002, Wilden clocked a best lap at 1:17.410 (114.357 mph) in the No. 99 Derhaag Motorsports Chevrolet Corvette. The driver from Oakville, Ontario will be making his 11th career Trans-Am start and will compete in his third Trans-Am race at Mosport on Sunday.
Second quickest in the opening practice was 2009 Trans-Am champion Tomy Drissi, of Hollywood, Calif., in the No. 5 THE A TEAM: THERE IS NO PLAN B Jaguar XKR at 1:18.906 (112.189 mph). Drissi opened the 2010 Trans-Am season two weeks ago with a victory at New Jersey Motorsports Park and is looking to make it two in a row.
Canadian Blaise Csida, of Stouffville, Ontario, was third in the opening practice session at 1:20.919 (109.398 mph) aboard the No. 07 Gateway Racing Inc. Chevrolet Corvette. Csida is making his first Trans-Am start of the season this weekend. He finished sixth in last year's Trans-Am race at Mosport.
Another driver making his 2010 Trans-Am debut, Elmer Shannon, of San Franciso, Calif. was fourth in the No. 27 Spectra Holdings/Gateway Racing/Eatmon Racing Engines Chevrolet Corvette at 1:24.800 (104.392 mph). Daniel Ramoutarsingh, of Trinidad, completed the top five in the No. 8 Trinrico Steel & Wire Products Jaguar XKR. He posted a best lap at 1:28.712 (99.788 mph).
