DRISSI AND RAMOUTARSINGH TO RETURN TO TRANS-AM SERIES COMPETITION IN 2010 WITH RSR
EAST LANSING, Michigan (May 6, 2010) - The weather is not the only thing heating up as the 2010 SCCA Pro Racing Trans-Am Series is about the start the ignition to kickoff a fiery season battle of sports car competition this weekend in New Jersey. 2009 Trans-Am Champion Tomy Drissi and 2009 Trans-Am Rookie-of-the-Year Daniel Ramoutarsingh return to the series with RSR for a two-car assault.
The Trans-Am series will headline numerous race weekends this year, all at North America's most storied road courses. With ten races scheduled for the rejuvenated series' 43rd season, the Trans-Am Series opens its 2010 season with its maiden appearance at New Jersey Motorsports Park, in Millville, New Jersey. The Southern Road Circuit, Thunderbolt Raceway, features over 2.25 miles of asphalt including a one-half mile straightway and 14 challenging turns presenting a new challenge for both drivers and team.
In 86 Trans-Am starts from 1999 - 2006 and 2009, Drissi has earned 47 top-ten finishes, 22 top-fives, 14 podiums, two poles and two wins. Last year, the seasoned veteran started in the top-three in five of seven Trans-Am races earning one pole and appearing on the podium five times with one victory en route to his first Trans-Am Championship title.
As the famous moving billboard for 20th Century Fox in the Trans-Am Series, the owner of Drissi Advertising will continue to promote various movies this year. At this event, his livery will be promoting the new movie MARMADUKE The "Duke" Arrives (www.themarmadukemovie.com) out in theaters June 4. Driving the #5 MARMADUKE The "Duke" Arrives Jaguar XKR, the Hollywood-native embarks on his seventh season driving under the Jaguar marque in Trans-Am.
"It is an honor to be the defending champion, but the way I look at it is I was the 2009 Trans-Am Champion and 2010 we are starting all over. I am going to approach this season race-by-race and do a good job for the RSR team and the Trans-Am Series. I am anxious to compete in another full-season effort with support from 20th Century Fox and I will be driving the #5 MARMADUKE The "Duke" Arrives Jaguar XKR in New Jersey. I have never been to New Jersey, race track or state, so I am looking forward to the experience and hoping to leave there with a large trophy.
I am also looking forward to teaming up again this year with Daniel (Ramoutarsingh). He is a great teammate, I know that we are going to work really hard with each other to go out there and win races this year."
Now that Ramoutarsingh has his first season of Trans-Am competition under his belt, look for him to be one of the top contenders this season. After making seven Trans-Am starts in 2009, the Trinidadian earned five top-ten finishes, three top-fives, and is coming off two-consecutive podium finishes which led him to his rookie honors and finishing fourth overall in the championship.
With goals to successfully participate and contribute to the SCCA Pro Racing Trans-Am Series under the Trinidad and Tobago national flag, he is also focused on marketing his sponsors, Trinrico Steel and Wire Products Ltd. and Cassiel Property Development Ltd. Ramoutarsingh will pilot the #8 Trinrico Steel & Wire Products Jaguar XKR.
"I am so pleased to have this opportunity to be part of the Trans-Am Series in 2010, and extend my gratitude to everyone at Trinrico Steel and Wire Products Limited. This year I look forward to returning with my team and teammate Tomy Drissi to some of the best race venues in the world. This season I hope to contend for the championship, and every race event will be equally important to accomplish that. I think co headlining with other Pro Series' events will continue to create awareness and draw fans back to Trans-am, as well as make for some awesome race weekends. I hope to see everyone come out and support Trans-am."
