LEXINGTON, OH (June 29, 2002) -- The fourth round of the 2002 BFGoodrich Trans-Am Series continued this weekend at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. Butch Leitzinger, driving the Tommy Bahama Chevrolet Corvette, won the race. His teammate, Randy Ruhlman, driving the Preformed Line Products/Coyote Closure Chevrolet Corvette finished 13th.

The Tom Gloy Racing duo had two good practices and a great qualifying session Friday on the 2.258, 13 turn road course. Leitzinger became the first two-time pole winner of the 2002 Trans-Am Series, Friday when he took the top starting spot out of 22 drivers for today's Trans-Am Buckeye 100. Qualifying was tough with the top-nine drivers separated by only a second. "I was actually surprised [by the pole-winning lap]," Leitzinger said Friday. "It didn't feel that much faster than the others. The track was a bit slick, and it was tough to put together a good lap." Rhulman was fast, qualifying seventh, a lap time of 1:25, just 0.6 (six tenths) from the pole speed.

"All weekend the Tommy Bahama car and Tom Gloy Racing was wonderful," said Leitzinger. "We were the quickest in all of the sessions and started on the pole. I hope this win is the start of more good things ahead. I'm disappointed that it took me so long to bring home a win for the team."

BFGoodrich* Tires "Take Control" Award - In addition to winning the race, Butch Leitzinger won the BFGoodrich* Tires "Take Control" Award for leading the most laps in today's race...Leitzinger led 42 of the 45 laps. For his efforts, he received a free set of BFGoodrich* g-ForceTM T/A* radials.
