NOTE 1 -- Pruett can clinch his third Trans-Am Drivers' Championship by finishing eighth or better in tomorrow's Motorock Miami 100.

NOTE 2 -- BACKGROUND STATS...Leads in the points standings...In 2003, has seven wins (St. Petersburg, Mosport, Infineon Raceway, Cleveland, Trois-Rivieres, Road America, and Denver) in nine starts...In August, raced in the Winston Cup event at Watkins Glen, scoring a career-best second place...In June, competed in the Winston Cup race at Infineon Raceway finishing 24th due to contact while running sixth...Has two Trans-Am Drivers' Championships (1987, 1994)...In 2002, did not compete in the Trans-Am Series...Competed in Winston Cup Series in 2000... Competed several seasons in CART Champ Car Series, scoring two wins...Has two IMSA GTO Drivers' Championships (1986, 1988).

On his qualifying effort... "This will be the hottest race of the season. We were joking that the team owners will get their money's worth out of their drivers tomorrow. This will be a tough race physically. It will be very demanding, brutal to run an 87-lap race. You also have to deal with the intricacies of the track like the crowning and manhole covers.

"It'll also be tough on the car because it's such a tight, bumpy circuit. That's what's great about Trans-Am racing -- it's a sprint race. You've got to get your set-up right because there are no pit stops and no opportunities for changes.

"We've got pavement changes, too. The concrete is very slippery but the asphalt has pretty good grip. That's part of the challenge of a street course; it's continuously changing. You're always adding rubber (from different tire manufacturers) and some aren't compatible. The car didn't feel very good at first but it got better and better and I think it was because the BFGoodrich tires rubber was finally down.

"It's very difficult to pass on this track. If the weather's like this tomorrow, it'll be a tough race."
