NOTE 2-- MIAMI STATS...Miller qualified fourth and finished eighth, having lost power steering, pitting to replace a water pump belt, and being caught up in a late race melee.

NOTE 3 -- BACKGROUND STATS...Ranks second in the points standings...Has one win (Lime Rock) and eight podium finishes this season...Has two wins, 39 top-five finishes, 66 top-ten finishes, and four poles in 99 starts...Made his Winston Cup debut in Infineon Raceway, finishing 24th...Raced in the Watkins Glen Cup race, finishing 36th.

On his qualifying effort... "The car was better. We were quicker after we made some changes. But we just didn't go fast enough. We'll look at the data and see what else we can learn.

"We made a gearing change that probably hurt us some. But we've got a short warm up tomorrow to give the car a final check-up before we put it through the paces for the race. We'll be fine."
