CALGARY DRIVER GEARS UP FOR EDMONTON
EDMONTON, AB (July 13, 2005)-Calgary driver Hima Maher is looking forward to the Trans-Am Road Racing Series event in Edmonton this weekend, where he won the GT Classic Championship in 2000. Although the Derhaag Motorsports racer is eager to take on the wide-open surface of the Edmonton City Centre Airport July 15-16, he plans to stick to the same racing strategy as previous Trans-Am events this season.
"Our objectives remain unchanged," says Maher, who will compete in a Centennial Motorsports Chevrolet Corvette. "We want to finish every race, look for opportunities to improve our track position and continue to build confidence in the car and team".
"Hima's consistent approach to driving these cars is paying dividends," remarked Jim Derhaag, "I was pleased with the way he handled himself in Toronto and expect him to do well on the new track in Edmonton".
Maher joined the Derhaag Motorsports team less than two months ago and after only three races, is in 10th place overall, second in rookie points and is the top Canadian driver. He has received enthusiastic support and solid advice from teammate Randy Ruhlman, who currently leads the Driver's Championship standings.
Formed in 1999, Maher Racing Inc. is a Calgary-based organization which operates Maher Performance Driving School and the Calgary Sport Drivers Club.
Maher's Chevrolet Corvette is sponsored by Centennial Motorsports of Calgary and is fielded by the Minneapolis-based Derhaag Motorsports, led by former Trans-Am driver Jim Derhaag. Derhaag's cars have the most consistent finishing record of any team in the Trans-Am Series.
