(September 29, 2000) Coming off of a huge win earlier this the month at the Texas Motor Speedway, Leighton Reese (Minnetonka, MN) and the Banner Racing Team head back to Texas, Houston this time, for round 8 of the SCCA's BFGoodrich Tires Trans-Am Series. The weekend will be shared with the CART series cars, making this event a big hit in the downtown area of Houston.

Qualifying today commenced at approximately 5:30 pm. The weather was beautiful, about 85 degrees, not nearly as hot as the 122 degrees that was experienced in Ft. Worth just a few weeks ago. There were 2 groups that went out for qualifying. The first group was the quickest 15 from the morning practice, while the second group went out immediately following. Running 3rd quickest in most of the morning practice, Reese was maintaining that position for the majority of the qualifying session. Qualifying times were much faster than those of the early practice session, by an average of about 3 seconds.

Starting the race from pole position will be Brian Simo in the #88, followed by Paul Gentalozzi and Willy T. Ribbs. Leighton Reese and the Banner Team will start the Grand Prix of Houston from 9th position on the starting grid.

The race will be aired on the Speedvision network on October 13. Visit our website at www.theracesite.com/leighton for continual updates and race results.
