(June 14, 2000) Belle Isle, a suburb of Detroit, MI, will play host to round 5 of SCCA's BFGoodrich Tires Trans-Am Series. The Trans-Am race on Saturday, June 17, is part one of what has often been referred to as the "Superbowl of Motor Racing". With Ford, GM, and other car manufactures located within a very small radius, competition will be extremely fierce at this Detroit based market. CART will finish up the weekend with the headlining race on Sunday, June 18.

Leighton Reese (Minnetonka, MN) and the Banner Racing entry are completely geared up for this venue. With multiple disappointments already this season, many falling near the very end of an event, Reese and the Banner Engineering team are as prepared as a team can be. "We run with the fastest cars and proved that we are able to hang with the best of them, but we just keep having one disappointment after another," said Reese at Mosport in a post race interview with Speedvision. "I feel that we have what it takes, the car the setup and the crew, to take a first place finish, we really just need a break from the bad luck that seems to be following us around."

The race from Detroit will not be aired live, but for practice and qualifying updates, please log onto our website at www.theracesite.com/leighton. The race may be seen on Speedvision on June 26, 2000, at 8 PM.
