LOPEZ LOOKS TO COME UP ACES AT AUTOBAHN COUNTRY CLUB
Miami, Florida(July 28, 2010)- Coming off his first career victory in the SCCA Pro Trans-Am Series at Toronto two weeks ago, RJ Lopez looks to carry the momentum into this weekend's Harrah's Grand Prix Presented by Mazda, at Autobahn Country Club. With the 2010 season only four races shy of conclusion, Lopez and the no. 6 Lopesport Racing Disco 106/ECR Engines/Goodyear Chevrolet Corvette are only 75 points away from current points leader Tony Ave. Now that the monkey is off his back regarding that first win, Lopez intends to focus on the needed points to take over the leader board.
"After our win in Toronto we all feel pretty relieved to have finally gotten our first win," said Lopez. "So we are now heading into the upcoming races a bit more relaxed allowing us to concentrate on running our best and obtaining the most points possible."
"I am pretty excited about this weekend's race, as I have been every race this season," commented Lopez. "To be able to run all ten events of the 2010 schedule, get a win, contend for the championship, what more could you ask for?"
The Autobahn Country Club track presents a new set of challenges. The configuration is a change from some of the more recent venues visited. "I believe Autobahn will suit our car and team pretty well," said Lopez. "The layout has a pretty diverse series of corners and our car is a very good all around car."
Having visited all three spots on the podium this season, the Lopesport team understands consistency is key to success in the championship. "Being there at the end is what matters," offered Lopez. "You have to finish at the front and earn as many points as possible. Obviously we could use another win or two to gain ground on Tony(Ave). But, racing is unpredictable and you never know how it will shake out at the checkers, so you have to keep your head down and be there. Only one lap matters, the last one."
Said Mark Messien, who prepares the no. 6 Corvette every event for Lopez, "Our goal is to give RJ a solid reliable car each and every week, that allows him to focus on driving and earning points. I cannot say enough about how hard everyone has worked this season. So far the results speak for themselves."
The action gets under at Autobahn Country Club this weekend with practice on Friday and Saturday with qualifying to take place Saturday afternoon. The green flag waves on 6o minutes of racing excitement at 3PM CST.
