Volkswagen Vento cup switches to NRC from 2016

The one-make Volkswagen Vento Cup series will run as a part of the National Racing Championship weekend along with nine other championships, the Madras Motor Sport Club announced today.

Ever since the inception of Volkswagen Motorsport India in 2010 with the Polo R Cup, the German manufacturer has been part of the JK Tyre Racing series weekend.

"The discussions for 2016 season are going on," a spokesperson of Volkswagen India said to

"Volkswagen Motorsport India remains committed to its Vento Cup programme and the focus will stay on identifying young racing talent in India and nurturing them to the next level.

"Volkswagen Motorsport India has been successfully associated with JK Tyre Motorsport since the start of our programmes in India," the spokesperson said.

"These have been six fantastic years with one of the most reputed motorsport organisers and supporters in the country.

"However, for 2016, we are exploring all options to be in line with our global partners as well and use the synergies better," it concluded.

In addition, the MMSC will host the FMSCI NRC's for both two-wheelers and four-wheelers for the next three years along with the National 4W and 2W Drag Racing championship & National 2W Dirt Track championship.

Upon the announcement Ajit Thomas, President, MMSC said: “We are thrilled to win bids to host the major racing championships in the country."
