In very hot weather conditions, the South African guest driver made light work of his rivals from India to win the eight-lap race.

Robertson finished the race in 15m39.262s, while Singh was second with 15m50.095.

They were followed by A Sandeep Kumar (Kolkata) in the third place, while Donovan Vaz and Saurav Bandyopadhyay finished in the fourth and fifth places respectively.

Pole-sitter Robertson had a good start and there was no challenge from the others. The main battle was behind with A Sandeep Kumar, Karminder Singh and Donovan Vaz.

With a four-second lead over Robertson, there was no danger of Singh catching up. But Sandeep and Vaz were hard at it with their cat and mouse game.

Robertson, meanwhile, was pulling away further and further. After the fourth lap, he had gained another second and was 5.1 seconds ahead of Singh.

The lead increased to 6.4 seconds between Robertson and second-placed Karminder.

Towards the end, Sandeep had increased the gap to about three seconds. But at the front, Robertson was a clear winner, ahead of Singh.

Robertson said of his victory: "The track was a bit bumpy and I had to adjust to its characteristics," he said.

"But once I was familiar, it was a smooth and a free flowing.

"The free practice sessions helped me in adjusting to the track and that in turn for the race," he felt.

Singh said: "I got a good launch and was chasing Devin.

"After the first half, the gear shifts were not happening properly. But I did not want to push it because there is another race on Sunday," he added.
