Patel's successful Audi TT Cup debut

Indian Aditya Patel was happy with his debut performance in the Audi TT Cup at Nurburgring as a guest driver last weekend.

The current Audi R8 LMS Cup driver was invited by Audi Sport to compete as a guest driver in the Nurburgring round which the Indian happily accepted.

Patel started the weekend handsomely with a third-place finish in the practice session, 0.129s off the leader Nicolaj Moller Madsen.

He carried his fine start into qualifying where he finished ninth and was 0.779s off polesitter Emil Lindholm's time while championship leader Jan Kisiel was second and Dennis Marschall third.

"I was third fast in practice but in qualifying I didn't get together two fast laps and so I only managed ninth and 15th, " he said.

Good run in the two races

The first race, starting from ninth, Patel got a good getaway to make a couple of places and moved to seventh.

In the eight lap race, the Indian made further places when he overtook three drivers on the final lap to finish fifth and the top guest driver in race one won by Kisiel from Marschall and Lindholm.

For the second race, Patel started 12th after having qualified 15th. The Indian got off to a rocketing start when he made five places in the opening lap to be seventh.

He made another place on lap seven to finish sixth at the end of 16 laps and once again the top guest driver in the race won by Kisiel as Marschall was second and Loris Hezemans third.

"It was good fun," Patel said. "I was able to overtake quite a lot to finish fifth and sixth."

Patel added qualifying compromised his race positions as he had the pace to go even further than fifth and sixth.

"Overall, I like the series. And I would come back to compete again at any time."
