Round 7 of the 2010 AUTOBACS SUPER GT series cancelled
We regret to inform you that the official decision has been made to cancel the 7th Round of the 2010 SUPER GT series scheduled to be held at Fuji Speedway on September 11 and 12 due to the serious damage in the locality of the Town of Oyama caused by Typhoon No.9.
The effects of the typhoon included mudslides and other damage within the grounds of Fuji Speedway, and although reconstruction work is under way, there has also been severe damage to roads in the vicinity of the Speedway. It has become evident that attempting to hold the race as scheduled under such conditions would not only be an imposition on the spectators attempting to come to the race but could also seriously hinder the work of the local authorities and citizens to recover quickly from the typhoon damage. For this reason there has also been a request from the Oyama Town authorities to cancel the race.
Regarding refunds for customers who have already purchased tickets to the race, an announcement will be made separately in the near future. Therefore, we ask that all customers be sure to hold on to their tickets for the time being.
Update to the cancellation of Round 7 Fuji.
No alternative event will be held, 2010 season is concluded with 7 events. An entry to Round 7 is counted as participation to a race.
Round 7 Fuji had been cancelled due to the damage caused by Typhoon No.9. GTA made an announcement on the 14th with regards to the number of races for this season, handicap weight for the final round, etc.
Firstly, Round 7 has been cancelled and no alternative event will be held at Fuji or any other circuit. As a consequence, the series title of 2010 season, initially scheduled for 8 events, will be competed in 7 events. The event scheduled to be held on October 23rd and 24th at Twin Ring Motegi will remain to be the final round.
For the final round (Motegi event), handicap weight was to be reduced to 0 kg for the cars that had participated to all races (8 races) up to that point. It has been decided that the rule will be applied to the final round by treating the cars that had entered (applied for entry) the cancelled Round 7 as had participated to the event. In another word, if a car had participated to all races from the season opener to Round 6 and had made an entry to Round 7, the handicap weight for the final round will be 0 kg for that car. If a car had participated to all races from the season opener to Round 6 but had not made an entry to Round 7 and will participate to the final round, the handicap weight for the car will be calculated by multiplying 1 kg to the points attained, as defined in the regulation.
Accordingly, an entry to Round 7 will be counted as participation to one event in terms of the eligibility for participation to the "JAF Grand Prix SUPER GT & Formula NIPPON FUJI SPRINT CUP 2010" held on November 12th to 13th, which defined in the regulation as "participation of 5 events or more in this season."
