CHAMPIONSHIP: Japanese Grand Touring
Event: Round Three 26 May
Points finish for Krumm and Motoyama.
The third round of the Japanese GT Championship saw the arrival of the latest 2002 spec Nissan Skyline for Michael Krumm and his teammate Satoshi Motoyama. Qualifying
It was Satoshi's turn to qualify and he secured 12th position and the fastest time of the Nissan Skylines.
Satoshi did a good job today, we have had some of the usual new car problems and we still have some work to do, but it is definitely a major step forward on the old car. The laps I have made gave me a very good impression of it's potential and I think we will be very quick on Sunday. Michael commented Saturday evening. Race
Michael made the start and immediately gained places charging through the field passing cars on every lap until he reached fourth position. As Michael's pit window opened the safety car was deployed and incorrectly held Michael behind it for a whole lap.
Once released Michael dived into the pits and handed the no.22 Skyline over to Satoshi. Their problems were then compounded when the pit lane exit was closed, Satoshi then rejoined in last place. Once the field was released Satoshi drove very hard to regain seventh place, which he held to the finish.
The early laps of the race were fantastic, the car was great and it was not too difficult to pass cars. With the new car we definitely have the speed to be fighting hard with the Toyota's and Honda's. When the safety car was deployed I thought great I can pit and keep position but there was a mistake and they held me behind them - but we still managed to get some points so it was not a complete disaster. I'm really looking forward to the second half of the season now even though it is not sure if we will use the new car at the next round in Malaysia or not.
