HARDEEVILLE, S.C. (May 7, 2001) - The Young Lions will be ready to roar when they compete at the Hardeeville Motor Speedway on Saturday, July 21 for the INEX Young Lions National Championship. The race at the 1/3-mile track will be the third large Legends Cars event held at the speedway within the past four months, with the World Finals being held in March and the Masters Classic taking to the track in May.

The Young Lions, so appropriately named, will feature drivers between the ages of 12 and 16 from all over the country. Drivers are expected from Alabama, Colorado, Georgia, Florida, Indiana, Maryland, North and South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia to participate in the event. These future stars of NASCAR will do battle during a 50-lap feature event, following time trials by all drivers. Before the Saturday night's festivities, an open practice day on Friday, July 20 is planned, along with the opportunity for media to attend and cover this newsworthy event.

Even though these drivers have the least amount of experience, the Young Lions National Championship should be a thrilling race to view. The youngsters are not afraid to rub fenders and trade paint, while they are swapping for position down the 70-foot wide straightaways.

A title sponsor for the INEX Young Lions Championship, along with the total purse for the event, will be announced at a later date.

Grandstands open at 5:00 p.m. every Saturday evening. The first green flag waves at 5:30 p.m. for the qualifying races, which will determine the starting line-up for the feature events. Feature races are set to begin at 7:30 p.m. Hardeeville Motor Speedway is located three miles southeast of I-95 on Highway 17. Ticket prices are $10 for adults, with reduced rates for seniors, military and children. Children under five are admitted free. Information is available at www.hardeevillespeedway.com or by calling (843) 784-RACE. Check out where the Lowcountry and Coastal Empire come to race.
