Dan Fredrickson captures first ASA pole for Sunday's Oneida Bingo & Casino 300.

Kaukauna, WI (June 8, 2002) -- Rookie Dan Fredrickson of Elko (MN) produced a surprising qualifying effort that resulted in the first pole of his ASA career in only his seventh ever event. Fredrickson was one of the later cars to come on the track for qual ifying after a ten-minute delay, due to precipitation, briefly halted proceedings.

"I felt our car was better prepared for long runs, so this is very satisfying for me," said Fredrickson. "I've only raced here twice before and no matter who you are, this track is very unique with the layout."

The 24-year Fredrickson entered the weekend as the ASA rookie point's leader. His pole qualifying time of 20.720 sec. / 93.822 mph came on the tricky .54-mile tri-oval. Veteran Rick Beebe of Kansas, Fredrickson's LaFavre Racing Teammate Kevin Cywinski of W ausau, Kyle Busch of Nevada and Brad Mueller of Random Lakes (WI) rounds out the top-five qualifiers.

Other Wisconsin drivers in the starting field include Todd Kluever of Sun Praire, Landry Potter of Genoa City, Doug Mahlik of Green Bay, Steve Carlson of West Salem, Chris Wimmer of Wausau, Scott Hansen of Green Bay, Chad Wood of Madison, Tim Schmidt of Mu skego, Mark Pluer of West Allis and Brent Strelka of Kaukauna.

The Oneida Bingo & Casino 300 will take the green flag at 1 p.m. (Central) and will be telecast live on TNN The National Network.
