Enfield, CT. ( March 1 ) As if the 3 race season opening Florida, California, Florida stretch were not enough the Washington Apple team had to make things a little more interesting. Say maybe a side trip to New England for 3 days. Ricky Bryant and his Washington Apple ASA showcar will be appearing at the 16th annual Racearama at the Big E in West Springfield, Ma. on March 2nd, 3rd, and 4th.Ricky and the car will be at the show all 3 days. The Washington Apple team will partner with retailer A&P SuperFoodmart for the show, and will also do a showcar appearance at 1 of the A&P SuperFoodMart's in Springfield, on March 1st, the day before Racearama opens.
While it may be 3 weeks from the ASA season opener till the next race in California, it has turned out to be one of the busiest stretch's the Washington Apple team will face all season . Bryant, was back from Florida Speedweeks only 5 days before the team tested at South Boston Speedway on Saturday Feb. 24th in preparation for the first ever ASA race there on Saturday April 7th.Two days later Ricky was off to Detroit for 2 days of Media Training at the GM facility there. Bryant was recently chosen to represent GM as one of the drivers on the Vortec Power Team Professionals. To cap off a busy week Bryant headed for New England and the race show. Once the race show is over the showcar will head west from Massachusetts to California while the race car starts its 2,500 mile trek across country from the teams North Carolina shops. Bryant will have a couple days back at home and the shop to make final race preparations then its off to California March 8th for the start of race & sponsors activities. All of this intense preparation will culminate in the tires.com 300 at the Irwindale Speedway on Saturday evening March 10th at 6 PM PT.The will be carried live on TNN at 9 PM ET. All ASA races are carried live on TNN in 2001.
Bryant and his Washington Apple crew are focused on putting the disappointment of not qualifying for the ASA opener behind them with a strong run at Roger Penske's beautiful ½ mile facility in Irwindale. When Bryant visited the track in October he likened the track to Orange County Speedway (Rougemont, NC ) back home. A track where Bryant has had much success including back to back wins in the Goody's Dash Series in 1998, and 1999, and a 2nd place finish in 2000. Hopefully this familiarity will be a benefit to the Washington Apples team at Irwindale. Another factor in leveling the playing field was the sound decision by the ASA to not allow testing by any ASA team at Irwindale. This allowed smaller budget teams to be on a more level playing field with those teams who could afford to go to California to test. Bryant is looking for a strong run to get his chances for the Pat Schauer Memorial ASA Rookie of the Year award back on track.
While in the Los Angeles area BG Motorsports has announced a partnership with 3 additional sponsors for the race.
