VERNON, NY - The DIRT Sportsman division at the New Utica-Rome Speedway will have a special 25-lap $850 to win Mr. Sportsman title race this coming Sunday September 17 at the New Utica-Rome Speedway in Vernon. Also scheduled are the ELS Sprint Cars and Slingshots plus high paying title races for the DIRT Pro Stocks and Pure Stocks. Race time is set for 5pm.

The driver that wins the race will earn the title of Utica-Rome Mr. Sportsman 2000. West Winfield's Kevin Crave, the 2000 Track Champion will try to keep the title from cross-town rival Jamie Christian, who dominated the division with six feature wins this season.

Utica-Rome race fans can expect a top field of Sportsman to try to win the high paying event, which will be the final race at Utica-Rome for the division in 2000. Along with Crave and Christian, Utica-Rome management expects Willy Decker, Paul Kinney, Paul Carey, Ron Richardson, Dan Yankowski, John Kinsella, John Christian, Craig Pritchard, and invading drivers such as Jim Spano, Chris Schultz, Justin Haers, and many more. No other track around will be running Sportsman, and many drivers will be on their way home from the previous night's Super DIRT Series event at Can-Am, so the list of drivers at Utica-Rome could very well be a who's who of the division.

Heat lineups will be determined by a draw at the main gate, and the features will be lined up by a redraw, held after the heat events.

The New Utica-Rome Speedway is a Sunday family tradition in the Mohawk Valley, and you can be a part of it as the racing season winds down for 2000. The gates on Sunday September 17 will open at 2pm and racing will begin at a special time of 5pm. The speedway is located just 20 minutes west of Utica on Route 5 in Vernon, and it is easily accessible from NYS Thruway Exit 33. Free parking and overnight camping is allowed on speedway grounds.
