VERNON, NY - The Utica-Rome Speedway will salute the memory of late NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt, Sr. on Sunday May 6 during the 2001 season opener at the "Action Track of the East" located on Route 5 in Vernon.
Speedway management has planned a memorable salute before the 358-Modified feature gets underway to Earnhardt, the fallen icon of American motorsports. Although total plans are uncertain, Utica-Rome race fans are asked to wear Earnhardt memberolia to help honor Earnhardt's memory.
In race action on Opening Night will be the mighty DIRT 358-Modifieds in a special 40-lap feature event to kick off the new season in grand style. A stellar field of Utica-Rome's top 358-Modified drivers plus some invaders will be on hand to prepare for the 100-lap Super DIRT Series event scheduled for May 13 and get an early season jump on the track championship chase. Also in action in the season opener will be the first point races for the DIRT Sportsman, DIRT Pro Stocks, Pure Stocks, and Slingshots.
You can be a part of the "Fastest Family Fun in Central New York" this summer at the Utica-Rome Speedway, a Sunday family tradition in the Mohawk Valley. The gates for the 2001 Season Opener on Sunday May 6 will open at 4pm and racing will begin at 6pm, with Slingshot heats taking the green from Starter Chip Burdick at 5:45pm. The speedway is located on Route 5 in Vernon, NY, and it is easily accessible from NYS Thruway Exit 33. Free parking and overnight camping is allowed on speedway grounds.
