VERNON, NY - Persistent afternoon heavy rain showers forced New Utica-Rome Speedway track promoter, Eric Kingsley, to cancel the racing program scheduled for Sunday August 6 at the popular Vernon half-mile track.

This marks the seventh rainout of the 2000 season out of fourteen scheduled events to date at Utica-Rome, which surpasses number of rainouts (6) of the last three years put together.

Coming up on Sunday August 13, Utica-Rome will present a regular show of DIRT 358 Modifieds, DIRT Sportsman, DIRT Pro Stocks, and Pure Stocks. Also scheduled is a New York State Slingshot Championship Tour Race plus New York State Stock Car Association (NYSSCA) Safety Award Night. Pepsi-Cola, the official softdrink of Utica-Rome, will sponsor the exciting evening of DIRT Motorsports racing action, which is slated to take Starter Chip Burdick's green flag at 6pm sharp.

The New Utica-Rome Speedway is a Sunday family tradition in the Mohawk Valley, and you can be a part of it this summer. The gates on Sunday August 13 will open at 4pm and racing will begin promptly at 6pm. The speedway is located on Route 5 in Vernon, NY, and it is easily accessible from NYS Thruway Exit 33. Free parking and overnight camping is allowed on speedway grounds.
