VERNON, NY - Afternoon showers forced Utica-Rome Speedway management to cancel the Advance Auto Parts Super DIRT Series for DIRT Modifieds on Thursday, August 22nd. This event was to be stop number 20 in the summer long series. There is no rain date planned.

Coming up this Sunday, August 25 is a regular show of DIRT 358 Modifieds, DIRT Sportsman, DIRT Pro Stocks, Pure Stocks plus Family Autograph Night. The DIRT 358 Modifieds will be competing in their last point show of the 2002 campaign. Matt Sheppard seems to have the title in his grasp as he leads Mitch Gibbs by 58 points going into this Sunday^Òs event.

Ryan Baye, Gordy Button, and Jason Barney are the remaining top 5.

During intermission this Sunday, fans will have an oppurtunity to meet and get autographs of their favorite drivers. This event is always popular with the younger fans that aren^Òt always able to get to meet the driver they cheer on the track every week. Gates will open at 4pm, with racing set to go promptly at 6pm.

The following week the Empire Super Sprints will invade Utica-Rome Speedway along with the Central New York Mini-Sprints, DIRT Sportsman, DIRT Pro Stocks, and Pure Stocks. Utica-Rome Speedway is located on Route 5 in Vernon, a short trip from New York State Thruway Exit 33.
